A Tentative 2012 Schedule

posted in: Running | 3

I’ve (finally) managed to confirm parts of my 2012 schedule. This year I’d like to focus on performing well at a few key races (bolded) while leaving sufficient time in between to recover, train and maintain flexibility to partake in those random, crazy fun runs that arise out of nowhere but you kick yourself for having committed to some stupid race six months earlier that conflicts with it. Many of these are still tentative, but here it is:

  • 2/18: Red Hot 55K (Moab, UT)
  • 3/18: Los Angeles Marathon (Los Angeles, CA)
  • 3/31: Zion Traverse (Zion NP, UT)
  • 4/7: Cedro Peak 45 (Tijeras, NM)
  • 5/5: TNF Endurance Challenge 50 (Bear Mountain, NY)
  • 6/23: San Juan Solstice 50 (Lake City, CO)
  • 7/14: pace @ Hardrock 100 (Silverton, CO)
  • 7/26-29: CO Trail multi-day run (Breckenridge to Salida, CO)
  • 8/4-9: AK running trip (Juneau, AK)
  • 8/18: pace @ Leadville 100 (Leadvile, CO)
  • 9/8: Wasatch 100 (Kaysville, UT)
  • 10/6: Durango Double (Durango, CO)
I can't wait to return to Lake City this year.

  1. The Durango Double looks awesome! And, we may be overlapping on the CT! I may be getting some time in late may (4 days or so) without the wife/kids and would likely head out to big mountain country by you. Will keep you posted.

Starting point for my ideas for the CT: http://coloradotrail100.blogspot.com/

  2. What is your take on the Cedro Peak 45? I know you are familiar with that area, and I was thinking of possibly doing it depending on the trail/elevation.

Looks like you have a nice schedule mapped out for the year! Any backup if wasatch doesn’t work out?

  3. Nick,i live close to the area,my take.A terrific network of trails, almost all from mountain bikers and horse back riders. You can really get moving at a good clip,(if it’s dry),a few sections of rocky trails,a kind of rolling terrain, and lots of flatter smooth single track and dirt roads, elevation around 6500 to 7500 i believe,Tijeras is 6300.
Scenery has a really nice,Southwest flavor, with a nice mix of not overly dense, but always in the woods feel to it.Now,if there’s been alot of rain, parts of the trails and roads can get X-country type muddy, would become an epic journey!
Think overall its going to be a really sweet, fast, race that nobody would be disappointed in,and a really experienced group organizing it,(Road Runners Club).
